Nick Taylor

Recording & Mix Engineer

Nick Taylor has been working in various UK and London studios for 17 years, residing at Air-Edel since 2004. Arriving in London from Bristol in 1998, he worked part time as a composer for TV adverts and shorts and during this time he was offered work assisting at a small studio in London Bridge. He then went on to work at Wessex studios in Highbury, and then as a freelancer at the Strongroom and the Roundhouse. His client list is varied, reflecting work within film score, video games, jazz, rock and pop. Nick has been lucky enough to work with all kind of line ups, from full orchestra to jazz trios and everything in between.

Nick has worked with world-renowned composers Patrick Doyle and Dario Marianelli amongst others. Nick recorded and mixed the Oscar-nominated score for Mike Leigh’s film ‘Mr Turner’ and recent feature ‘Peterloo’, as well as ‘The Double’, with composer Andrew Hewitt and the Oscar-nominated documentary ‘Virunga’ with Patrick Jonsson. In 2016, Nick recorded and mixed the Ricky Gervais hit comedy feature film; ‘David Brent: Life On the Road’ with musician and songwriter Andy Burrows – most recently they collaborated again on Netflix series ‘After Life’.

Nick has recorded and mixed countless film and television scores including ‘Final Portrait’ directed by Stanley Tucci, ’The Hippopotamus’ directed by John Jencks, ‘Mary Shelley’, starring Elle Fanning, ’The Escape’ starring Gemma Arterton and Dominic Cooper, and ‘Finding Your Feet’ starring Timothy Spall, Joanna Lumley and Imelda Staunton. Most recently, Nick completed the recording, mixing and mastering of  ‘All Is True’, and ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ both scored by Patrick Doyle and BBC One series ‘The Little Drummer Girl’.

On the Rock and Pop front Nick has worked with many artists including Graham Coxon, The Script, and Emeli Sandé, for whom he recorded much of the number 1 album ‘Our Version of Events’. He regularly works closely with various arrangers, including Rosie Danvers (Wired Strings) with whom he has recorded string arrangements for many contemporary artists including Kanye West, Adele, Raleigh Ritchie, Leona Lewis, Birdy, Pink, Fun, Tinie Tempah, Madness, Stormzy, Michael Kiwanuka, Sigma, and Professor Green.

Nick also recorded the drummers Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Roger Taylor (Queen) at the legendary ‘Headley Grange’ on a project for the sample library company ‘Spitfire’.

As well as Air-Edel, Nick works regularly in all the main London recording studios including Air Lyndhurst, Abbey Road and British Grove.
