Growing up in Shropshire, Al enjoyed playing piano and bass guitar in local music groups and bands. But it was an encounter with an AKAI S3000 sampler at a local music centre that sparked a lifetime of interest in strange boxes with buttons that made fun noises. In fact, so much so that Al dropped out of a physics undergrad to enrol on the Tonmeister Course at Surrey University. He then moved to London to immerse himself in the world of recording studios.

After 15 years working in technical roles at some of the world’s top music and post facilities and thinking ‘I should be doing that’ when a music editor attended a session, Al put down the soldering iron in 2016 and began his music editing journey.

Since becoming a music editor in 2016, Al has worked on major projects such as the WSA-nominated soundtrack for ‘My Cousin Rachel’, war drama ‘Journey’s End’, feature documentary ‘Coldplay: A Head Full of Dreams’, HBO series ‘Big Little Lies’, ‘The Aftermath’ starring Keira Knightley and Jason Clarke, ‘Black Mirror’ episode “Metalhead”, and Disney’s ‘Young Woman and the Sea’.

For the last decade, Al has continued to apply technical rigour to all aspects of the role, whilst bringing creativity and collaboration learned from his classical music training and touring guitar band experience. Al also particularly enjoys the important human elements of the role, especially the journey of translating our ideas in the form of words, gestures and emotions into musical storytelling.
