Michael L. Roberts is a film, television, and theatre musical director, vocal, piano and cast-performance coach, composer, and a vocalist, pianist, and multi-instrumentalist.
A sought-after coach in the film and television industry, Roberts works closely with performers to build the confidence and technical skill required for a wide range of on-screen musical performances. His recent credits include vocal coach on Snow White (Marc Webb), Sky series Amadeus , cast vocal coach on Chevalier (Stephen Williams), and vocal coach on the global action series Citadel (2023).

Additional film work includes Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile and Belfast , as well as Dexter Fletcher’s Rocketman , where he collaborated with music supervisor Giles Martin, coaching the cast during pre-production and principal photography.. Michael also contributed to the soundtrack as pianist and backing vocalist, providing piano guides and rehearsal recordings.
An award-winning jazz musician, Roberts has appeared on BBC, Sky, and Jazz FM, performing internationally across the UK, Europe, the US, and the Caribbean with artists including Frank Sinatra Jr., Rod Stewart, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Imelda May, Sir John Dankworth, and Howard Blake.
Roberts gained international attention with his performance on BBC Radio 2 of the previously unpublished Cole Porter song “I Know It’s Not Meant For Me” , later presented to a sell-out audience at the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room. He also served as UK musical director, pianist, and vocalist alongside Frank Sinatra Jr. in the Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select and Sinatra Century campaigns.
As a composer and lyricist, Roberts blends romantic song traditions with jazz-inflected harmony. His works include The Avocatus Suite and commissioned settings of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, performed at the Britten Theatre and the Victoria & Albert Museum as part of the Sounds and Sweet Airs concert series and Shakespeare Festival.
