Grant trained as an actor at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was resident composer at the Bridewell Theatre in London from 2003-04.
He wrote the songs and performs in 'The Craze' band for ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS. After a sell out run at the National Theatre the production has toured in the UK: had a successful transfer to the Adelphi Theatre in London and is now playing at the Haymarket in the West End, the show is to debut at the Music Box on Broadway in April this year.
Grant also wrote the music for BROKEN GLASS. Broken Glass started at the Tricycle Theatre and transferred to the Vaudeville Theatre in the West End last year.
Grant has written the music and lyrics for musicals including ROBIN HOOD (Castle Theatre, Wellingborough); SIMPLY CINDERELLA (Curve Theatre, Leicester); TRACY BEAKER GETS REAL (Nottingham Playhouse and UK tour); THE BEGGARS MUSICAL (Changeling Theatre tour); SPITTIN’ DISTANCE (Stephen Joseph Theatre and NT Studio); YETI: AN ABOMINAMUSICAL (Edinburgh Fringe); A CELEBRITY CHEF ATE MY HAMSTER! (Bridewell and Chichester Fringe); BEYOND THE SEA (Bridewell); BORN OF GLASS (NYMT, Lyric Belfast) and THREE SIDES (Bridewell, Shaw, Finborough, 45th Street Theatre - New York Musical Theatre Festival 2006).
His theatre scores include ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS, ENGLAND PEOPLE VERY NICE, THE MAN OF MODE, THE ALCHEMIST and SOUTHWARK FAIR (all at the National Theatre); BROKEN GLASS (Tricycle and Vaudeville); BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S (Haymarket Theatre); WALLENSTEIN (Minerva Theatre, Chichester); BOLLYWOOD JANE and SALONIKA (West Yorkshire Playhouse); LONDON ASSURANCE (Watermill Theatre and tour); 101 DALMATIANS (Royal and Derngate, Northampton) and THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, MACBETH, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, TWELFTH NIGHT and THE BLUE DIAMOND OF AZKABAR (all for Changeling Theatre, tour).
Grant’s film and tv work includes the short film LOSING THE PLOT; the sky arts documentary THEATRELAND and a viral video “Last Minute Musical” which has notched up more than 700,000 downloads for LASTMINUTE.COM. Grant has more recently been scoring the music for the hit BBC2 comedy BLEAK OLD SHOP OF STUFF, a four part comedy series that premiered at Christmas last year.
His work has been featured in the NOT(ES) FROM NEW YORK series at the Duchess Theatre, and on the debut albums of Annalene Beechey, Stuart Matthew Price, Carlone Sheen and Gemma Atkins. The ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS original cast album is now available and features Grant singing nine of the fifteen songs. He won the NYMF award for excellence in musical theatre writing for the off-Broadway production of THREE SIDES. Grant was this year added to the Stage 100, the official list for the 100 most influential people in theatre.
