Tales of Time and Space

Besant Hall Records are proud to digitally re-release ‘Tales of Time and Space’ by award-winning composer and musician Paul Grabowsky. First released in 2004, this iconic album features some of the most influential jazz artists of the modern era, including Branford Marsalis, Joe Lovano and Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts. Grabowsky’s powerful music is beautifully brought to life by the sextet, who were recorded at Avatar Studios in New York by David Baker.

[Grabowsky] writes alluring songs, graceful yet surprising, full of inspired intricacies that always resolve. Of course, when it is time for the contexts of counterpoint and the unfolding thematic structures to provoke a solo, it is beyond nice to have Lovano or Marsalis available. Lovano is eloquent about Grabowsky’s melody on “Medium Rare,” Marsalis’ tone on “Wist” is like the purest emanation of the spirit and Watts keeps this high-class project in one long unstoppable power glide. Tales is a one-off recording with a ton of talent—something that often results in a muddy or uninspired date—this is a tight ensemble with purpose and drive. Everyone shines and has his particular moments, but first and foremost they serve Grabowsky’s music and vision.Michael McCaw, AllAboutJazz, 2004
