‘The Jazz Ambassadors’ Premieres Tonight on BBC 4/ PBS

‘The Jazz Ambassadors‘ directed by Hugo Berkeley premieres tonight in the UK at 9pm on BBC 4, and 10pm on PBS in the USA.

“The Cold War and Civil Rights collide in this remarkable story of music, diplomacy and race. Beginning in 1955, when America asked its greatest jazz artists to travel the world as cultural ambassadors, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington and their mixed-race band members, faced a painful dilemma: how could they represent a country that still practiced Jim Crow segregation?”

Air-Edel’s Michael J McEvoy composed the original score for the documentary. Maggie Rodford was the score supervisor for the film and Nick Taylor recorded and mixed the score at Air-Edel Recording Studios.
