Belousova’s collaboration with award winning choreographer and former Boston Ballet’s soloist Viktor Plotnikov has been described as “groundbreaking”, “a big hit” and “stunning” with Belousova composing the scores for Plotnikov’s three original ballets: Orchis, Surrogate and recently The House of Bernarda Alba performed by the remarkable ballet troupe of the Festival Ballet Providence. Orchis premiered in 2013. Praised as a “big hit” and “stunning collaboration” it returned to stage again in the following season. In recognition of Belousova’s many achievements as a composer and pianist in both her native Russia and throughout the international music world, she received an honorary citation from the Mayor of Providence joined by the citizens of Providence. Surrogate premiered in 2014 as part of the Festival Ballet’s famed Up Close On Hope series. “Accompanied by Sonya Belousova’s techno sounding original score, this thought-provoking piece questions whether we have all become ‘surrogates,’ unable to think and act for ourselves. Wearing tutus, three female dancers are accompanied by their male partners who move them about by grabbing hold of their ponytails.” – Motif Magazine described the ballet. The House of Bernarda Alba, based on Federico Garcia Lorca’s lauded play, premiered on March 4, 2016 to a sold-out audience with Belousova’s score being lauded as “fantastic”, “mesmerizing”, “eerie and thrilling” and “haunting”.
Belousova appeared as a special guest at the 2014 Golden Score Awards giving a virtuosic performance of Jorge Calandrelli’s piano pieces in Maestro’s honor, which resulted in a standing ovation from the Hollywood music industry elite with Kenny G, Arturo Sandoval and Walter Afanasieff in attendance. Some of the highlights of Belousova’s dynamic collaboration with the award-winning producer include Belousova arranging & orchestrating multi-platinum Mario Frangoulis’ Tales of Christmas album with the London Philharmonia recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios featuring guest performers Grammy Award winners Sarah Brightman, Marilyn Horne and Jorge Calandrelli, as well as Belousova herself. She is currently in production of her solo album produced by Calandrelli, which is being recorded at the historical Capitol Records.
