SIMON SLATER
Simon has composed over 170 original scores for TV, film, theatre and radio. From the Royal Shakespeare Company to BBC drama, from Channel 5 to commercial West End Productions.
Recent television includes two, two-hour specials of DALZIEL AND PASCOE (Houdini's Ghost and Demons on our Shoulders) both directed by Patrick Lau and produced by Annie Tricklebank. Also the TV film IMPACT EARTH for Channel 5 and DARLOW AND SMITHSON directed by Keith Boak. Other TV includes INQUISITION starring Derek Jacobi and HUNTING VENUS (Yorkshire TV) directed by Martin Clunes.
For Radio, Simon's work can be presently heard on BBC Radio 4 THE REPORT a hard-hitting documentary series. Other radio includes 8 DAYS IN JULY about the bombings in London, and the award winning THE BLOOD LIBEL, both directed by Hugh Levinson for the BBC.
Theatre work includes CONSTELLATIONS by Nick Payne at The Royal Court Upstairs (2012) and many productions at the Royal Shakespeare Company, most recently ROMEO AND JULIET directed by Neil Bartlett. Simon has a strong working relationship with the director Ed Hall, having just completed the music for a new play NO NAUGHTY BITS by Steve Thompson and ENLIGHTENMENT by Shelagh Stephenson, both at Hampstead Theatre. Also amongst his credits are HENRY V, JULIUS CAESAR, TAMING OF THE SHREW (all at the RSC), THE DEEP BLUE SEA and DEATH OF A SALESMAN (both directed by Sarah Esdaile at the West Yorkshire Playhouse). MACBETH with Sean Bean, Albery West End, COYOTE ON THE FENCE (Duchess West End) and HONOUR (Wyndhams West End), staring Diana Rigg.
Recordings include SHERLOCK HOLMES - THE LAST ACT, SHERLOCK - THE DEATH AND LIFE and THE RAPE OF LUCRECE.
Originally at Goldsmiths College London University, Simon is a multi instrumentalist, playing soprano, alto and tenor sax, clarinet, piano and keyboards, piano, accordion, guitar, ukulele, mandolin and double bass.
Simon is a Member of the British Academy of Composers.
