Oscar Nominations 2017

We are delighted to see so many films featuring the work of Air-Edel composers, music supervisors and musical directors have been nominated for Academy Awards!

‘Kubo and the Two Strings‘ was scored by Air-Edel’s Oscar-winning Dario Marianelli and music supervised by Maggie Rodford assisted by Emily Appleton-Holley. The feature tells the story of a young boy named Kubo who must locate a magical suit of armor worn by his late father in order to defeat a vengeful spirit from the past. The production has been nominated for ‘Best Visual Effects’ and ‘Best Animated Feature’.

Air-Edel’s Terry Davies was the onset Musical Director for ‘Florence Foster Jenkins‘ and worked closely with Meryl Streep​ in preparation for her performance. Streep plays a New York heiress who dreamed of becoming an opera singer, despite having a terrible singing voice. The production has received two nominations including ‘Best Actress’ for the production’s star Meryl Streep, as well as a nomination for ‘Best Costume Design’.

‘The White Helmets’ has been nominated for ‘Best Documentary Short’. Air-Edel’s Patrick Jonsson composed the haunting score for the Netflix production which provides an in depth look into one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, the documentary short follows three members from the unarmed first-responders of Syria’s brutal war. Recently nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize​, the White Helmets are a group of around 3,000 volunteers who are among the first to arrive after bombs have rained down on the neighbourhoods of Syria. These volunteers have saved over 70,000 lives and this number is growing daily.  This was Patrick’s second collaboration with previous Oscar nominated director Orlando von Einsiedel​ and producer Joanna Natasegara. The soundtrack was recently released on Air-Edel Records and is available across a number of digital platforms including Amazon, iTunes, and Spotify.
